Are you ready to get serious about your self care this summer? Why not ditch your evening cocktail for some healthy and delicious mocktails to really prioritize your self care.
Ditching Cocktails for Mocktails
I used to consider myself a fairly “normal” drinker. I drank in the evenings after a long day in the name of “self care”. Having worked hard raising kids, keeping the house in order, and keeping everybody’s lives pointed in the right direction, I needed to do something for me in the evening. Didn’t that mean I “deserved” to relax with a glass of wine (or three) on a nightly basis?
I am sure what I am saying resonates with a lot of you out there. After all, society has been telling us the only way to relax after a long day was to pour a glass of wine. It wasn’t until I actually quit drinking, did I realize that habit was actually doing nothing for my self care. Drinking was making me more and more tired. I was depressed. All I cared about was getting to the evening and pouring that glass of wine. There was very little sparkle to my day.
But after I made the decision to quit drinking, my real self care era began. I suddenly had time in the evening to practice good skin care habits. I was sleeping well enough that waking up early to journal before the day’s tasks began was, not only possible, but something I actually was excited about. By replacing my nightly cocktail with healthier alternatives, I began to see a difference in my skin, my weight, and my mood. I was convinced. Sobriety was the way to becoming the person I wanted to be. The person who took care of herself – inside and out. That was real self care.
