Stay Motivated with Vision Boards and Themes
It is easy to get stuck in a rut of doing the same old thing over and over. Often, the routines of daily life do not leave you time or energy to think about where life is headed. By doing regular check ins to set goals for yourself, you can avoid such ruts. I like to base my goal setting on a theme, or word, to keep me focused. It really helps prevent overwhelm as I think about the future. And it stops me from trying to do all the things at once. As motivation, creating a vision board helps to stimulate my imagination and get the creative juices flowing. When I need some extra inspiration, I can return to the vision board to remind me of what I am working toward.
Word of the Month
Abundance, breathe, inspiration, hustle….you are probably familiar with choosing a word of the year to accompany New Years Resolutions. If you don’t do this yet, it can be a really great way to to help you focus your goals for the year ahead.
Because… well… life, I like to think on a bit smaller scale. I go for words of the month as my go to way of focusing my goals. I am currently in a big transition phase so any word I might have chosen 6 months ago doesn’t necessarily apply to me today. Also, by thinking on a smaller scale I don’t overwhelm myself with goals that are too big. Each month is a step forward or an opportunity to begin again.
My word of the month for June is Transformation. If you have read my other posts this month, you will know my life has pivoted recently and it has lead me on a quest for slowing down my routines and focusing on more self care. As we enter summer, I hope to really dive deeper into my goals of self care and enjoying the moment.
I chose the word transformation. It is my intention to transform my daily routines. My goal is to put systems in place that will allow me more time for self care. Transforming eating habits is another goal. I have been stuck in an uninspired rut when it comes to food lately. With the re-opening of the summer farmers market, I am sure to get inspired once again. My home is also going through a transformation as we come to the end of our house build. I am excited to get things back in order after living in chaos for nearly 2 years.
Vision Board
A vision board can really help you envision what your goals might look like. I personally have been making vision boards for as long as I can remember. In high school, they were classic magazine cutouts on poster board. In college, I got a bit more creative and illustrated my vision boards in my sketchbook. With the advancement of technology since then, it is even easier to create a vision board (and bonus – no paper cuts 🙂
Making a Vision Board with Canva
I am going to take you step by step through how to make a vision board in Canva.
- First go to canva.com and open a free account.
- Next, search “Mood Board Photo Collage” in the search bar.
- Choose a template. The one’s with the crown in the bottom right corner are available if you have a premium account. I do not have one at the moment and have been getting by just fine. Here is a copy of mine you can use as a template if you wish.
- Once you have chosen a template, you can search for photos, graphics, etc. in the tab on the left. Choose images that fit with the mood you are trying to create for your future.
- Then, it is as simple as dragging and dropping images from the left hand side and into the place on the template you would like them.
- To add text, click on the text tab on the left. You will find plenty of options for plain text and fun premade font combinations.
- To change the font, font size and color of your fonts or shapes, you will find your options in the tool bar along the top of the workspace once the item is selected.
- Canva automatically saves your designs to your account but if you want to download or share your design you can do so by clicking share button to the upper right of the page and selecting the options that best suit your needs.
