If you read my post An Artists Journey, you are aware that I have made a promise to myself to get back into the habit of drawing regularly. I have committed to myself to illustrate one quote each week this month that I will post for all to see. This keeps me accountable and it’s just plain fun to write about what quotes mean to me.
So without further ado, here is today’s illustrated quote.
Rest
Today’s quote comes from the very wise Winnie the Pooh (or rather A.A. Milne).
Let’s start by taking a smallish nap or two.
Winnie the Pooh
I like this quote because it reminds us of the importance of rest. While we might not take a nap very regularly, pausing throughout the day to just be, is the basis of slow living.
Through his character, Winnie the Pooh, A.A. Milne hits the nail on the head by encouraging us to start with rest. Often times we think of rest as something we do after exhaustion. That we have to earn our downtime. But when we look at life this way the cost becomes too high. We end up running on an empty tank without enough time left for the amount of recharging we need. We wake up the next day only partially refreshed and learn to ignore our need for rest. It is not sustainable. Sooner or later the debt becomes too high.
I know this all too well. I have experienced burnout many times. One recent experience lead me on an entirely new path. The path to this blog and to my journey of slow living. I decided I needed a mindset shift which led me catching up on caring for myself. As a mom, my care rarely ended up on my to-do list and that needed a change.
So, today, I want you to remember to take a moment to pause. Close your eyes and feel the sun on your face. Take a deep breath in and a slow exhale. Catch your breath and make rest a priority. Try to savor the moments and replace some need-to-do’s with want-to-do’s.
