Are you feeling like it is time to reinvent yourself? Stuck in a rut and don’t know how to get out? I’ve been there.
If you have been reading my blog, you will know I am in a transition phase of my life. I was tired of the Groundhog Day feeling of doing the same thing day in and day out but somehow expecting different outcomes. I was feeling stuck. It was time for some changes.
It’s a weird feeling to feel stuck. It is almost undefinable in any other way. The weight of life makes you literally feel as if you are stuck in the mud. Trying to move forward but just spinning tires. But, thankfully, with a little effort and imagination it is possible to get unstuck.
I am working on it. In the past 6 months I have gone from crying heap on the floor not having any hope for the future to excited to wake up in the morning and work toward my goals. I created this guide to getting unstuck and becoming the motivated person I know you want to be!
What Does it Mean to Reinvent Yourself?
Well…it could mean a lot of things to a lot of people. You can reinvent your style. Re-evaluate your career choices. Or shift your mindset. You might do everything at once or let one thing flow naturally into the next. Here’s a starting point:
Goals
The reason you feel stuck in the first place is you sense you aren’t meeting your goals or dreams. A great place to start is to brainstorm what you want your future to look like.
Take a few minutes to sit down and start listing your goals and dreams. Let your mind wander. You don’t have to make all the things happen now, or even any time soon, but it can be fun and motivating to imagine what could be.
After you have gotten inspired, I recommend categorizing your goals into what is achievable in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. (And you know I love creating a vision board to really visualize these dreams).
Reinvent Yourself with New Routines
In order to meet these goals, you have to set routines. You need to create a system to become the person you want to be.
You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.
John Clear – Atomic Habits
I recommend writing down your dream day. What does the you who is working toward her goals do everyday? Focus on simple routines throughout the day of tasks that will help you reach your goals. For example if you want to be healthier, think of what a healthy person does each day. Perhaps a morning walk, or weekend meal prep, etc. and build some routines around that.
Read how I built my routines around the 8+8+8 rule.
Personal Growth and Self Care
When forming a routine, include time for personal growth and self care. Habits such as journaling, practicing gratitude, or meditation can go a long way toward creating a mindset that will only have positive effects on your life and goals. And while working toward your goals you want to be sure you do not fall victim to burn out by neglecting the person whose life you are trying to reinvent!
